Today’s topic is about limitations as a human being. We may not be able to know our limitations.
“Learners shall not fear!”, Xinlei said in his book, <Xinlei Study Strategies>. It is an excellent book talking about study strategies like how to be an Ace student in any field. He created a way of self/advancing learning theory which is demonstrated to be very powerful.
Xinlei says, advancing yourself by studying beyond limits, then you will increase your self-confidence. Every time you advance yourself, gain more self-confidence obtain more knowledge, you will feel a better versions of yourself. The more powerful you feel, the better learner you become. You advance others by advancing yourselves.
I tried to put this pedagogy in my routine running, trying to run as fast and longer than I can. I did feel much happier when I overcame my limits point, In the movie <Rocky> , we feel inspired when we watched Rocky being beaten times after times but he insisted fighting back, staying there, like a never conquerable soul.
You are strong, not because how easy you can win, but because how much obstacles and self-limitations you can overcome.
This self-advance idea drives me to think about the limitations of human beings. When we understand our limits, we will know how strong we can be and how to get stronger.
What can’t human do?
There are many extraordinary people either in the our current living world or in the history, seems most wonderful and superior than others. When I was young, I want to become one of those selected ones, the unordinary, the super-hero, the most unbeatable person, the luckist one. These fantasy dreams failed when I realized all heroes have their problems, the most powerful one may have biggest problems because nobody dare to criticize him when the problem is small. For example, the smart ones, they may be impatient and arrogant, so their smartness prevent them to be sociable. For the wise ones, they may read and think a lot, but even the extraordinary great writers make many errors and flaws.
Every human being is ordinary. Everyone has limitations. There is much more human can’t do than what we can.
What’s the purpose of human’s living?
In the book, Man’s Search for Meaning, the author, after overcoming darkness in the Holocaust, found a way of keep faith and lights in the desperate. He suggests the meaning of one’s life is surpass yourself. He said, life is no purpose but for you define it yourself.
I enjoy advancing and going beyond myself; every time I run longer than usual, sweat heavier than yesterday, getting a higher grades, I feel good. Pain is for growth. I had times when I were beaten, I failed that I would never be able to get up, but I did it, and became stronger. Self-discipline and self-advance can be a happy meaning in one’s life.
But in all, self-advancement can only bring happiness of life. Is that a life goal? Sometimes a stronger, better and faster person may be more dangerous before his training.
What is the meaning of human’s life?
I found wise men have found out that the life is meaningless. Bible said something surprisingly
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Everything is meaningless!”” Ecclesiastes 12:8 NIV
“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 NIV
Lastly, I realized that it is beyond my limits to recognize my own limitations. What we can do, is be fearful and keep humble – as a human, we may not be able to realize how much of your ignorance
最后，我意识到知道自己的极限是超越我能力范围的事情。我们能做的是常怀敬畏与谦卑之心 – 生而为人，我们可能无法知道我们有多无知。
